# Instinct

## Definition

Instinct is a hosted personal AI assistant developed by Spear Street Technology, Inc., doing business as Instinct. Users can text or call it to delegate everyday tasks. The product describes an assistant that uses a phone and computer to handle work such as grocery orders, appointments, and travel arrangements.

Instinct names the service, including its account access, task execution, and handling of personal context. It does not identify a particular model checkpoint or a general technical architecture.

## Origin and attribution

Noah Shinn founded Instinct. He discussed the company in the September 28, 2026 episode of Patrick O'Shaughnessy's *Invest Like the Best*, titled *Instinct: The Personal Agent*.

The company's privacy policy and terms, revised August 26, 2026, already describe its autonomous personal assistant. Those dated documents establish the service's existence; they do not establish an exact first public launch or verified coinage of "personal agent."

## How it works

A user supplies a request and grants access to relevant accounts or information. Instinct plans and takes actions through connected websites, applications, and services. Its policies describe using earlier interactions to personalize responses and suggestions. Connected Google Workspace access can include email, calendars, documents, and tasks.

Instinct can exchange data with another provider or make a purchase on the user's behalf. Its terms distinguish generated output from actions and describe the commitments those actions can create.

## Scope and limits

The terms acknowledge incorrect or incomplete output, mistaken actions, and actions that may be irreversible. They also say confirmation controls cannot guarantee that erroneous actions will be prevented and that action records may themselves be inaccurate. A booking or payment needs confirmation at the destination service. The privacy policy also warns that third-party content may contain instructions intended to influence the assistant.

Personalization also has a data lifecycle. Disconnecting an integration does not automatically delete information already indexed from it; deletion requires a separate request through the service. The privacy policy offers a forward-looking model-training opt-out, with a safety-review exception. Google Workspace API data is excluded from model training, and the terms separately exclude materials placed in the Vault feature from training.

These policies state the company's handling rules and acknowledged risks. Independent reliability or privacy audits would require separate evidence.

## Operational significance

Delegate with explicit recipients, spending limits, and approval boundaries. Check completed work at the destination service, especially when it creates a charge or commitment. Treat account disconnection, deletion of indexed context, and training preferences as separate controls.

A personal assistant can develop useful context about its owner while still needing a clear boundary between knowing a preference and being authorized to act on it.

## Distinguish it from nearby terms

- A personal agent is a category. Instinct is a named hosted service within it.
- Computer use describes interaction with software interfaces. Instinct combines such capabilities with messaging, personal context, and service integrations.
- Agent memory concerns retained context. Retention is separate from whether information can be used for model training.
- A human-in-the-loop control determines where a person reviews work. Connecting an account does not explain every subsequent action's approval requirement.

## Check your understanding

A user disconnects their email account and assumes the assistant has forgotten everything it indexed. Which separate deletion and training controls would they need to inspect, and where should they verify an appointment that the assistant says it booked?
