Cursor launches Projects, handing multi-month work to a coordinator agent and its subagent swarm

Cursor began rolling out Projects in beta to all users on September 10. The company designed the feature for work that exceeds one session, including a feature, a migration, or a full app.

The coordinator plans the work and delegates coding to subagents, then brings completed work back to the user for review. Cursor says the coordinator runs on its own cloud machine, so "closing your laptop doesn't stop it." When a task needs testing on the user's hardware, the coordinator starts a local agent.

Each Project has a set of files that sync across every agent working on it. Cursor says this shared context can persist over months. A coordinator can also watch a Slack channel, run on a schedule, or follow every pull request to start new work without a prompt.

Why it matters: Cursor has combined coordinator-led delegation and persistent project memory in a shipped product. Teams building or evaluating a multi-agent harness now have a specific vendor implementation to compare against. Projects is in beta, and Cursor's announcement remains the only evidence for how it works.
