JetBrains launches Air, and an employee says Anthropic blocks Claude subscription support inside it

The company consolidated tools previously split across JetBrains Central and Central CLI into three named products: Air in JetBrains IDEs, Air Teams, and Air Governance. The system runs on the Agent Client Protocol (ACP), which JetBrains says lets any compatible agent connect to its IDEs rather than routing developers through its own Junie agent alone. On the post's Hacker News thread, at 58 points about three hours after it went up, a JetBrains employee posting as neuraldenis addressed a gap directly. Asked why Air has no support for a Claude subscription plan, they wrote: "We tried to make this work, but unfortunately hit a hard stop with Anthropic: their current policies do not allow us to support this integration, and we were not able to negotiate an exception." A second commenter, girvo, described how far the multi-vendor claim actually reaches: Air "supports ACP, so you can use it with any ACP speaking harness including many that would work with local agents."

Why it matters: A team deciding whether to route Claude usage through Air should plan on pay-per-token API pricing rather than a bundled subscription. JetBrains says that gap sits on Anthropic's side, not its own, and is not close to resolved.
