# In the News: September 27, 2026 (Evening)

Today's strongest item is less an incident than a taxonomy: a blog post cataloging
ten visual tells of AI-generated interfaces has resonated widely, giving reviewers
concrete language for spotting agent output that nobody actually looked at before it
shipped. A live "AI arena" project rounds out the cycle as a smaller, first-working
curiosity.

## 1. A crowdsourced checklist for spotting AI-generated UI slop

**[10 Tells of a Slop UI](https://hereticpleb.vercel.app/blog/10-tells-of-slop)** · Pranav Desai · hereticpleb.com, Sep 27, 2026

Prompted by a "minor UI improvement" to his college's app that he found worse than
the interface it replaced, Desai catalogs ten recurring visual markers of unreviewed,
agent-generated interfaces: gradients applied indiscriminately, clashing color
palettes with no hierarchy, pulsing status badges with no corresponding "inactive"
state to contrast against, misaligned custom elements, generic type pairings,
boilerplate "Built with X" text left over from chat context, glassmorphism as the
default aesthetic, and landing-page copy such as "Elevate" and "Empower" on
functional screens rather than marketing pages. "Gradients anywhere, gradients any
time, gradients at every single thing," he writes of the most common tell. The post
reached the Hacker News front page within hours of publication, past 200 points and
150 comments as of this writing.

**Why it matters:** None of this is measured or benchmarked, but that is the point:
it is a plain-language checklist a reviewer can actually apply before agent-produced
interface work ships, at a moment when most verification effort goes toward code
correctness rather than what the code renders.
