# In the News: November 4, 2026 (Extra 2)

OpenAI says it will buy Pierre Computer Company, the maker of Code Storage, a Git-based storage service for apps, and of two review libraries already inside the Codex app. The deal has not closed, and the announcement gives no price or date.

## 1. OpenAI says it will acquire Pierre, the company behind Code Storage and Codex's file and diff libraries

**[OpenAI to acquire Pierre Computer Company, Inc.](https://openai.com/index/openai-to-acquire-pierre/)** · OpenAI · OpenAI company post, November 4, 2026

OpenAI describes Code Storage as "a service that lets apps store code and track its history using Git." It says Pierre's Trees library, for navigating a project's files, and Diffs library, for seeing what changed, are what Codex users already use to browse files and review changes. It also names a Diffs edit mode that lets a reviewer fix a line in place, and a new syntax highlighter called Highlights that updates as an agent streams code.

On what happens next, the post says Pierre's open-source projects will remain open source and that customers can keep using Code Storage after closing while OpenAI works "to bring its features and functionality into Codex." Closing depends on customary conditions, including regulatory approvals, and the two companies stay separate until then. The post ties the deal to [Scaling Git at OpenAI](https://openai.com/index/scaling-git-at-openai/), published earlier this week, which describes Pando, the company's in-house source control backend for engineers and agents. It says the goal is to "advance the future of source control across the industry." Everything here is OpenAI's own description of its plans; the post does not say what Code Storage will look like after the features move into Codex.

**Why it matters:** If your product stores code through Code Storage, the vendor is about to belong to the company that makes Codex, and the stated plan is to fold the service into Codex. Customers are told they can keep using it, but the post sets no timeline, so ask what the roadmap means for you before you build more on it. For everyone else, it is a statement of direction: OpenAI is putting source control and code review for agents inside its own product, not leaving them to third-party Git hosts.
