Factory says Dex Horthy and Kyle Mistele's company is joining it "to accelerate building autonomous, self-improving software for enterprises and developers." The post describes the two founders as power users of coding agents since early 2025 and credits them with publishing the Research/Plan/Implement framework in August 2025. It says HumanLayer has "hundreds of daily active users." That figure is Factory's, and the post gives no price or terms.

The user plan is specific. Factory says it "will be open sourcing HumanLayer" and inviting all HumanLayer users to Factory. The current HumanLayer platform stays up during a transition period, and users can export their data, migrate to Factory, or self-host the open source version. The post gives no end date for that period. Factory also says Horthy, Mistele and their team will spend the next few weeks bringing multiplayer tasks and workstreams, plus in-app collaboration on agent-written plans, product specs and design docs, into Factory.

Horthy's profile on X now lists him as "MTS @factory", and a pinned post from him announces the move.

Why it matters: If your team runs on HumanLayer, the post tells you the platform has a transition period and no stated end, so decide now whether you will migrate to Factory or self-host. The other signal is the product direction: the features Factory says it is importing are shared plans, specs and design docs that people and agents edit together, which puts the review of agent-written plans inside the vendor's product. The post does not say when any of that ships.
